Hastings is famous for the Battle of Hastings, where William the Conqueror’s invasion forces defeated the English army under King Harold and established the Normans as the rulers of England. It later became one of the medieval Cinque Ports, providing ships and men for the king’s service. It’s now a popular seaside resort and fishing port, a great place to enjoy the best English fish and chips. You can explore the Old Town with its half-timbered houses and shops, visit the remains of William the Conqueror’s first English castle which towers over the town and sea, learn more about the Battle of Hastings, take a ride up the UK’s steepest funicular railway, hike up the cliffs into the nature reserve, relax on the beautiful Hastings pier, chill on the beach beneath the cliffs at Rock-a-Nore and listen to the sounds of the sea, see Europe’s largest beach-launched fishing fleet.

ITINERARY:

# 8am – We’re meeting at bus stop “P”, which is opposite the Inner London Crown Court, Newington Causeway, London, SE1 6DR. It’s near Elephant & Castle station. Arrive early so we can check you off the guest list, and you can meet everyone, and board the coach. # 8.20am – Coach departs. # 10.55am – We’ll begin our guided walking tour of the sights. # 1.30pm – Lunch break # 2.30pm – Free time to explore the town, visit museums, chill on the beach and pier, take a hike up the cliffs to admire the view across the town and sea, visit Hastings Castle, enjoy some fresh fish & chips, take some nice photos, and get some postcards and souvenirs. # 5.20pm – We’re meeting outside The Famous Cod Father Fish Bar, 10 E Parade, Hastings, TN34 3AL. Here’s a map: https://goo.gl/maps/SWrBdzZNafba59hD9 . This is where the coach will pick us up from. Arrive here early so you can find it and board the coach before it leaves. # 5.30pm – Coach departs. # 7.45pm – We’ll arrive back near Elephant & Castle station in London. Then we’ll go for food & drinks nearby. Bring your government photo ID for entry into the venue.
