We’re going on a day trip to Rye and Camber Sands.
A medieval citadel huddled against invaders and the sea, the fortified Cinque Port Town of Rye was once bustling with merchants, sailors, pirates and smugglers. It played an important part in national service, providing men and ships for the navy from the time of Alfred the Great. With 16th century timbered houses and historic fortifications, and 18th century cobbled streets winding up or downhill unexpectedly to produce breathtaking views, Rye’s isolated beauty has provided inspiration for craftsmen, painters, and writers.
Camber Sands is a stunning stretch of beach with unspoilt views of soft golden sand and sea stretching for miles. It’s famous for the long ridges of sand dunes and has starred in many movies. The sand dunes provide a valuable natural habitat for wildlife.
We’re going by private coach, leaving from near Elephant & Castle station, and places are limited. It’s £34 each for the well-organised trip, 2-way transport, payment fees, guided tour of Rye, and lots of travel buddies to make some good friends.
