DESTINATION INFO:

Come on the most amazing coastal walk in the south east of England, from the Seven Sisters Country Park, past the Coastguard Cottages in Seaford, over the famous white cliffs at Seven Sisters with breathtaking views across the coast, past Birling Gap and the Belle Tout Lighthouse, and over to the beauty spot of Beachy Head, and finally into the seaside town of Eastbourne which is the sunniest place in the UK.

The Seven Sisters cliffs are made from chalk that formed underneath the sea millions of years ago, and shaped by glacial melting during the last ice age and more recent sea erosion. As the cliffs crumble, the chalk reveals fossils from the prehistoric sea floor.

HIGHLIGHTS:

– Come on the most amazing coastal hike in England.
– Enjoy breathtaking views along the whole length of this hike.
– Climb up the famous Seven Sisters chalk cliffs, formed from the skeletal remains of trillions of planktonic algae.

– Enjoy the fresh sea air blowing across the English Channel.
– Explore the South Downs National Park.
– See the 850-ton Belle Tout lighthouse that was moved 17m from the cliff edge to stop it falling into the sea.
– Admire the beauty spot of Beachy Head and its red-striped lighthouse.
– Finish in the seaside town of Eastbourne, the sunniest place in the UK.

WHAT TO BRING:

– CLOTHING: It's always good to be prepared so we'd recommend always wearing footwear that is comfortable and supportive and suitable for walking/hiking on all terrain. The weather can change so bring some extra warm layers, a waterproof jacket, a hat and sunglasses, and it can be helpful to carry it in a light bag or rucksack.
– FOOD & DRINK: Bring a large bottle of water, and for hikes you should bring a packed lunch as we may have lunch somewhere scenic and away from shops.

TRIP SPECIFIC NOTES:

CLIFFS – DANGER:
These cliffs are soft chalk cliffs that are crumbling and fall regularly, and without fences. And there can be strong winds blowing. For your safety, stay at least 5 metres away from the cliff edges. There are plenty of good opportunities for beautiful photos without risking your life.

RIVER CROSSING:
If the tide is low we’ll cross the Cuckmere River, which involves taking off shoes and socks and rolling up trousers and crossing a few metres of shallow water. You can bring flip flops to make it easier, and a little towel to dry your feet.
